About the Book

The Illegal Images Workbook was created because we have seen our clients repeatedly struggle with child sexual abuse media (CSAM) with few resources to help.  The workbook is written for both those who may already be in the legal system due to their use of child sexual abuse media, or those who are hoping to change their behavior before their behavior results in legal issues.

Our inspiration for writing The Illegal Images Workbook comes from our experiences working with individuals who view child sexual abuse media who often feel a great deal of shame, fear, and distress about their behaviors, but don’t know where to turn.  This workbook is written to help these individuals find Awareness, Health, Freedom, and Hope (as represented by the signpost on the workbook’s cover) and to break free from the harmful pattern of viewing child sexual abuse media.

The Illegal Images Workbook is designed to provide individuals with information, exercises, and resources to help them navigate a new path—one that leads away from harmful content and toward a healthier and more fulfilling life. The workbook strikes a balance between increasing awareness and providing exercises that will develop new skills to change existing behaviors.

The Illegal Images Workbook is organized around six core areas: (1) emotion management, (2) i intimacy skills, (3) deviant sexuality (4) out of control sexual behavior, (5) technology use, and (6) victim awareness. These areas were chosen because research indicates that they are common underlying factors in the use of child sexual abuse media. This does not mean that these are the only struggles individuals face, but they are among the most prevalent and, therefore, essential to address.

The Illegal Images Workbook is designed to be interactive and engaging. We believe that the use of imagery and metaphors helps individuals retain information more effectively. Each exercise encourages the reader to "Reflect & Respond" and "React" to the concepts being presented, allowing for deeper understanding and personal growth.

The goal of The Illegal Images Workbook is to support individuals in becoming a person who can manage their emotions effectively, build healthy connections with others, engage in appropriate and fulfilling sexual behaviors, use technology in responsible ways, and fully understand the impact of child sexual abuse media on victims and society. While these goals may seem ambitious, we firmly believe that change is possible.
